Chapter 4

The Monster Who Ignores the Death Rule

"Should we drag him down and force it out of him?"

"But what if the others backstab us?"

Two contradictory thoughts cycled through their minds.

The murderers could all tell that Wu Wang knew something. With so many of them, they could surely subdue him if they all rushed him at once.

But there was a catch. Everyone knew they were all the same kind of people. The entire lecture hall couldn't scrape together half a conscience.

The youth's frail-looking body possessed impressive combat skills. Whoever made the first move would probably end up like that burly man, a mangled mess of black and blue.

Why should they suffer just so someone else could reap the benefits?

No one was willing to stick their neck out.

After half a minute of stalemate, someone suggested another course of action.

"Let's... check the bodies first."

They had noticed something. When those who had triggered the Death Rule collapsed in the darkness, many had fallen against the feet or bodies of the people next to them.

Although the living had immediately dodged away, it didn't change the fact that they had touched a corpse. Since no new deaths had occurred, it meant that touching the bodies didn't trigger a Death Rule.

"No external injuries... no internal bleeding either..."

"The deceased's body is completely healthy."

"It's as if their bodies were just empty shells, their souls stripped away!"

Among the murderers were a few who worked in the medical field. They even carried scalpels and began dissecting the corpses for a detailed examination.

But because they had a better understanding of the human body, they felt even more terrified. The loss of life caused by the Death Rule completely defied medicine.

Wu Wang's cheeky voice drifted down from the stage.

"Heh heh, are you sure there are no injuries? I wouldn't be so sure~"

He didn't mind chatting with this bunch. After all, he was still waiting.

Waiting for the next person to die during the "daytime."

The man examining the body, a crooked doctor from a private clinic, cursed back at Wu Wang's taunt.

"Injured or not, I'm a damn sight more professional than you!"

His clinic didn't just treat regular patients. He also secretly performed surgery and prescribed medicine for people with shady identities. He operated in a country with strict gun control, yet he treated gunshot wounds almost every month. That alone showed how much trust the criminal underworld had in his medical skills.

In terms of martial prowess, the crooked doctor admitted he was no match for the youth on the lectern. But when it came to medical examinations, he was confident no one here could surpass him.

Wu Wang stood up, taunting as he slowly moved.

"Idiot. If they were killed by the same ghost, then all the bodies should have the same characteristics, right?"

The youth walked toward him, step by step.

The crooked doctor instantly broke out in a cold sweat.

That's right! If one ghost killed them all, why are the bodies different? The first victim's face was trampled, but the others are completely unharmed.

Does that mean it wasn't the same ghost before and after the lights went out?

There's more than one ghost in the classroom!

As he was deep in thought, Wu Wang walked right up to him.

"Ha! You lose!"

Wu Wang's shout shattered his train of thought.

Looking down, the veins on the crooked doctor's clenched fists bulged. The so-called "loss" was just Wu Wang stepping on his blurry shadow, cast by the spotlight.

Like a young child, Wu Wang puffed out his chest with a proud expression.

"Now it's your turn to be 'it' and step on mine. Don't underestimate the bond between me and my shadow!"

With that, Wu Wang displayed incredible flexibility, twisting his body to make his shadow dodge left and right.

What the fuck kind of time is this to be playing a fucking shadow-stepping game!?

Just how old are you, for crying out loud!

If I weren't sure I couldn't beat this kid, I would've cracked his skull open by now...

Of course, the crooked doctor had no intention of playing a childish game with this psycho. He just silently squatted down to re-examine the body, trying to find any injuries he had missed.

Seeing that the man was ignoring him, Wu Wang ran off to step on other people's shadows. But everyone avoided him like the plague, afraid that his madness was contagious.

Wu Wang sighed and started walking back to the lectern.

"Sigh. Not even willing to return to your inner child in your final moments? Society really has corrupted you all."

Thud!

The sound of his footstep hitting the stage overlapped with the sound of the crooked doctor falling to the ground.

Thud! Thud!

The footsteps sounded like a death knell.

With every step Wu Wang took, someone would collapse with a terrified expression, never to rise again. By the time he had walked back to the microphone, ten more corpses littered the floor.

Most of them were the people Wu Wang had just been pestering to play the shadow-stepping game.

A middle-aged woman spoke, her voice trembling.

"You bastard... what did you do..."

It wasn't just her. Anyone who had seen what Wu Wang was doing was convinced he was behind the recent deaths. How could it be such a coincidence otherwise?

But still, no one dared to approach the lectern.

His earlier display of extraordinary fighting ability was one thing. Now that the youth seemingly possessed some means of controlling the Death Rule, they were even more terrified.

"Their deaths have nothing to do with me."

Wu Wang's smile never wavered.

This blatant lie made the people below grow restless. They felt insulted, scorned. At the end of the day, this was a group of murderers with no bottom line. They might be wary, but if pushed to the brink, they would drag Wu Wang down with them, even if it meant dying.

For instance, someone was already planning to risk it all.

But before the murderers could erupt, Wu Wang suddenly spoke into the microphone.

"I can reveal one Death Rule for now."

He looked at the group of scum, who had immediately perked up their ears to listen. He shrugged as if conceding.

"There is absolutely only one ghost in the classroom, but its rules are different for day and night."

He leaned closer to the mic.

"When it's dark, it goes blind and needs to use sound to determine your location, understand?"

In other words, the first Death Rule was...

【Do not make any obvious noise in the darkness】

His words were a revelation. Realization dawned on their faces.

So that's how it was!

No wonder no one else had died when the lights went out. They had all frozen in fear. The loudest sounds had been them fighting each other.

Once they stopped, they were safe.

But a small number of people maintained their suspicion. They hadn't forgotten that when they had all fallen silent, the only sounds in the classroom were the kid's demonic singing and tap-dancing.

If the ghost really kills based on sound, then why is Wu Wang fine?

There has to be a catch...

"Do you know any other rules?" the same woman asked, her tone no longer as sharp.

They were quite satisfied with Wu Wang's "concession."

Looks like this kid isn't as stupid as we thought!

Wu Wang's voice regained its cheeky tone.

"Shh~ Don't be hasty~ Time's almost up~"

Before anyone could react to what he meant by "time," the familiar sound echoed through the hall.

Thud!

The lights went out.

Everyone tensed, their hearts leaping into their throats. They hadn't expected the stage light to be on for such a short time. Only about ten minutes, they estimated.

But this time, knowing the rule, no one made a rash move. They carefully controlled their breathing and tried not to move.

Time seemed to freeze. Three minutes passed in the blink of an eye.

During that time, not a single person fell.

"What he said was actually true!?"

Now, even the small, skeptical group had no choice but to believe it. The facts were right in front of them.

But... was he really that kind?

Wu Wang's voice came from the lectern.

"Ahem. Ah, the sound of silence. A tough crowd tonight! Since you're all so quiet, I'll fill the air for you. Thanks for your support, by the way."

Most people realized the problem.

He was still making noise.

Why wasn't the Death Rule being triggered?

"I'm jumping in as the prophet. I'll check for a werewolf tonight."

Wu Wang ignored their bewilderment, simply pointing toward the person on his right, farthest from him. This act of completely ignoring the Death Rule was as terrifying as a heretic shunned in the middle ages.

No one knew how he did it.

And the unknown was the true source of their fear.

Click!

The moment he finished speaking, a spotlight shone down, illuminating the direction he was pointing.

In the light was the woman in the long dress, the same one who had wet herself in fear at the start. She still had that pitiful, trembling appearance.

While everyone was still shocked that the spotlight had obeyed his command, his next words made the blood drain from their faces.

Wu Wang said with a smile, "You, are the wolf."

"And also, the ghost disguised as a living person."
