Identity Exposed

Boom!
In the Temple guild's conference room, a beam of light slammed into a stone chair, shattering it into countless fragments. Dust filled the air.
A red light flashed and shot hundreds of meters away in an instant.
Among the vice presidents present, only Su Lian'ya reacted in time.
"Xingyue! Where are you going?!"
Su Lian'ya's expression twisted as she shouted after the streaking red light.
Unfortunately, Lan Xingyue didn't stop. She carved a path forward, leaving a trail of shattered stones in her wake.
"To save someone."
Long after the light had vanished, Lan Xingyue's manic, low voice echoed through the conference room.
"Save... someone..."
Su Lian'ya collapsed into her seat, her beautiful face a mask of utter exhaustion.
"Just now... did the priest call out the name Jiang... Cheng?"
Xie Changkong furrowed his brows, glancing at the others to confirm he hadn't misheard.
"Is it that Jiang Cheng? Or is it..."
Zhao Bai'an trailed off, hesitant to finish his sentence.
But everyone knew exactly what he wanted to say. They just couldn't accept the reality of it.
The skeleton who had been opposing them for so long... was actually him.
He had reincarnated, transformed into a skeleton, and appeared in the game?
The idea was too fantastical, too difficult to accept.
"No wonder," Xie Changkong sighed. "A mere skeleton could use divine techniques more skillfully than me. No wonder he could stay so far ahead of us."
He continued, a complex look in his eyes.
"With his unrivaled awareness, skill, and foresight, he was called the Great Demon King of the Ladder, the God of All Professions, and the creator of the Fourteen Divine Techniques. He even received a divine funeral from the Great Wasteland. If he couldn't stay this far ahead of us, that would be strange."
Wind Demon Jue Ying nodded admiringly.
"As expected of my idol, the Eternal God. No matter what form he takes, everything he does shakes heaven and earth. I finally understand why I lost. Against him, my defeat wasn't unfair at all."
Emei Ci sighed with admiration.
"But if it really is him... shouldn't we do something?"
Her expression still showed disbelief, but in her heart, she was already considering what she could do for her idol.
"Do what? Before a deity, we are all merely insects... sigh."
Ren Cangqiong suddenly felt a wave of despair and helplessness, a feeling he had never experienced before.
"Alas, the problem is that he was too conspicuous," someone lamented. "He exposed himself to the gods' vision far too early."
Xie Changkong shook his head helplessly.
"Actually, whether it's his previous identity or his current one, he's always been opposing us. I really don't know what stance I should take to help him."
"Sister Xingyue has already gone, hasn't she?"
Emei Ci grew anxious when she saw that Xie Changkong didn't seem to be planning to help.
Although she was a vice president of Temple, Jiang Cheng was her idol. He had always been her ultimate goal, and she had even secretly harbored feelings for him for a long time.
"Lan Xingyue... her position has always been unpredictable," Xie Changkong said, his brows still furrowed. "Besides, she's the only one among us who isn't bound by the president's restrictions. Sometimes, I wish I could be as free-spirited as she is."
"Say no more, I understand you."
Zhao Bai'an walked over and patted Xie Changkong on the shoulder.
"An individual's power is insignificant before a deity. We can gamble with our own lives, but Temple can't afford to take such a risk."
"So, we're just going to do nothing?" Emei Ci's voice rose. "He's being hunted by the hundred races now. That's at least a hundred million people, isn't it? How many times will he have to die?"
She couldn't bear the thought.
"How can Sister Xingyue possibly stop so many people by herself?"
Emei Ci’s gaze hardened.
"You can stay if you want. I just hope you won't stop me."
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
A dozen daggers materialized around her, hovering in mid-air with their sharp points aimed at everyone in the room.
"Go ahead," Xie Changkong said, nodding at Emei Ci with a hint of approval. "From today onwards, Temple will have one less vice president."
This was perhaps the biggest concession he could make.
"Thank you."
Emei Ci relaxed. She withdrew the hovering daggers, then turned and left, leaving the others to stare at each other in stunned silence.
"This price... isn't it too steep?" Zhao Bai'an sighed.
The rule set by Temple's president, Phantom Trace, was absolute. Any elder or higher who betrayed the guild would be hunted relentlessly by all its members for one full month.
In all these years, only one person had ever survived. That was the Dharma Saint, a madman who had slaughtered so many of Temple's members that the guild suffered devastating losses just to break the rule.
The Array Emperor and Immortal Phoenix had also tried and failed. No one else had ever succeeded.
Now that Emei Ci had left, she would face a death warrant from Phantom Trace himself. He would hunt her without rest for an entire month.
Su Lian'ya, who had been silent all this time, finally spoke.
"Perhaps for her, it's worth it."
